PD Dr Florian Muhle from Bielefeld Uni visits our Lab

PD Dr Florian Muhle (Faculty of Sociology, Bielefeld University, Germany) visited the VOSON Lab as part of the ANU Global Research Partnership Scheme to establish the "ANU Social Dynamics of Attention Centre".

During his visit, PD Dr Muhle gave the seminar presentation: "Types and Forms of Automation on Twitter" at the ANU School of Sociology Seminar Series. In addition, he presented "Twitter in the news: Some
problems of using Twitter data to represent public opinion" at the research workshop ”Social and behavioural dynamics of attention”, and participated in the RSSS Data Sprint 2020.

Florian's collaboration with the VOSON Lab started in 2017, with the Germany Joint Research Co-operation Scheme 2017-18 (Universities Australia – DAAD) “Socialbots as political actors? Autonomous communication technologies as tools and objects for digital sociology”. In 2019, the group was also granted a Volkswagen Foundation Planning Grant for "Unbiased Bots That Build Bridges (U3B): Technical Systems that Support Deliberation and Diversity as a Chance for Political Discourse"

Florian Muhle works as Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University (Germany). He is also Fellow at 'The young ZiF', a promotion program for young and outstanding academics at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Bielefeld, Co-Editor of the OA-Journal Forum Qualitative Sozialforschung/Forum: Qualitative Research, and Affiliate at the VOSON Lab at the Australian National University. Florian’s research interests include Media Sociology, Sociology of Technology, and Social Theory.
