Big Data Analysis for Social Scientists masterclass at the University of Manchester
As part of the Summer Program 2017, Dr Rob Ackland will run the masterclass: Big Data Analysis for Social Scientists on July 4-5, 2017, at the University of Manchester. The course is organised by Methods@Manchester, a faculty funded initiative focused on research methods in the social sciences.
Students are introduced to the collection and analysis of socially-generated 'big data' using the R statistical software, VOSON (for collecting WWW hyperlinks and text content) and Gephi network visualization software. The main emphasis is on applying social network analysis and quantitative text analysis to data from social media and the WWW. The course will also provide an opportunity for participants to learn how these data and techniques are being used in social science research.
The course is now fully subscribed.
